Lamprocapnos

Lamprocapnos, Paeonia and Viola are three drawings created as a series using pencil on paper. They are depictions of my sister Sareena, who lived in Israel for six years.

In November 2012, I took a trip to Tel Aviv to visit her. My trip, which began as a relaxed vacation, quickly turned into a nightmare, as terrorist groups launched rockets into Israel, with many of them directed at Tel Aviv. These unforeseen circumstances and the way in which we were forced to cope changed both our connection as sisters and my understanding of my own values.

Creating a juxtaposition between beauty and destruction, these three drawings represent elements of the frightening yet extraordinary experience we shared together and the impact it left on me.
