Views from Petersberg

In June my parents came to Germany and we had a wonderful time traveling around to different locations, seeing our usual favorite cities and visiting new ones.

Atop Petersberg Mountain in the Siebengebirge region is the secluded Steigenberger Grandhotel, an ideal place to have a cake and coffee while enjoying views of Drachenfels and Schloss Drachenburg. On another afternoon we took the train up to Drachenfels (which overlooks the vast forests of the Siebengibirge and the charming village of Bad Honnef) and hiked down to see the castle.

The Forest Floor

Over the weekend Sven and I went on an enjoyable hike through the Siebengebirge. Every so often along our trail we paused to observe the forest floor, where everything was so vibrantly green. As much as the invasive moss growing in our garden is a frustration, it is an essential part to the forest, and it grows so beautifully there. Waldmeister (woodruff) was popping up everywhere, and the ferns were all uncurling their foliage.
