Something I miss about living near Düsseldorf is the daily Markt am Carlsplatz. It has the most beautiful seasonal flowers and the freshest produce around. When Sven and I have some time to spend in the city, we often visit the market's French cheese stand and Hinkel Bakery around the corner to take some of our favorite items home with us. I love all of the purple hues of the mixed dahlia bouquets and the vivid orange of the Japanese lanterns. This market is amazing at all times of year!
Cloisters are some of the most peaceful places to visit, no matter what time of year it is. I've spent many recent summer days on the grounds of Kloster Heisterbach in the Siebengebirge sitting out in the sunshine and drawing in my sketchbooks. These photographs of Kloster Knechsteden in Neuss were taken a few years ago. Though the dark German winters are the last thing I want to think about in August, I see the leaves subtly starting to change colors and look forward to when everything is golden all around me.
