Burg Wissem and the Bilderbuch Museum

All throughout elementary school I enjoyed exploring my school library and taking stacks of illustrated books home to read. I can still remember a few favorites from my own collection - they are treasures I have kept and even remember the words to.

When I found out there was a picture book museum in the nearby village of Troisdorf, I was curious to see what they had there, and even more interested in visiting when I found out the museum was located inside of a castle.

Inside of this little Burg are collections of old and new illustrated books, along with original artwork from one of Germany's best-known children's book authors - Janosch.

Views from Petersberg

In June my parents came to Germany and we had a wonderful time traveling around to different locations, seeing our usual favorite cities and visiting new ones.

Atop Petersberg Mountain in the Siebengebirge region is the secluded Steigenberger Grandhotel, an ideal place to have a cake and coffee while enjoying views of Drachenfels and Schloss Drachenburg. On another afternoon we took the train up to Drachenfels (which overlooks the vast forests of the Siebengibirge and the charming village of Bad Honnef) and hiked down to see the castle.
