Frankfurt's Jewish Cemetery on Rat-Beil-Straße

While preparing for my photo series The Permanence of Memory, I visited a number of cemeteries to take pictures and gather inspiration. I kept an eye open for stones placed on graves, since this was part of the concept for my project. Although the Jewish Cemetery on Rat-Beil-Straße did not have as many stones as some of the other locations, I found the cemetery to be a captivating place to walk around.

I loved the way the headstones leaned in every direction, with moss covering many of them and ferns growing all around. Cobwebs caught leaves and dried-up flower petals. I had the feeling I had stepped into a different era.
